Honeywell has put its own aftermarket brake pads and those of competitors through a standard auto industry performance test at a test facility in Boxberg.

A number of European trade journalists were present at the tests designed by the German “auto motor und sport” magazine (AMS test), which is the most recognized performance test in the industry and simulates the extreme loads braking systems are subjected to every day. In the end, the Bendix and Jurid brake pads by Honeywell demonstrated their clear superiority in braking performance.

The most important result of the performance test: While Honeywell products remain very stable during the test and exhibit the same qualities as OE parts, the brake pads of competitors without OE experience show significant deterioration in braking performance. One competitors braking distance increased from 39 meters with cold brakes to 55 meters with hot brakes. The braking distance of the Honeywell brake pad remained stable during the entire duration of the test and was 38 meters with hot brakes – in other words 17 meters less the competitors. As a consequence they reduced safety through increased braking distances.

"When customers choose a brake pad from an independent garage, cost is their main concern. Safety is often ignored, usually due to lack of knowledge”, explains Miquel Tintore, Vice President of Aftermarket Sales at Honeywell Friction Materials. “Honeywell believes all customers deserve the highest safety, regardless of whether they buy original or aftermarket parts. The AMS test proves that Honeywell and its brands JURID(R) and Bendix(R), as the development partner of the auto industry, stand for uncompromising quality with the highest standards in safety, even in the aftermarket."
